SUWO held its annual general meeting on the 21st of September and a fresh and exciting executive, consisting of new and old faces (but mostly new!), was elected to lead SUWO into 2007 and beyond. They are (but not limited to):

    PRESIDENT: Coco Page (flute)
    VICE-PRESIDENT: Morgaine Peart (bass clarinet)
    TREASURER: Glen Pink (tuba)
    SECRETARY: Jonathan Kummerfeld (trumpet)
PUBLICITY OFFICER: Tom Schlosser (french horn)
    SOCIAL CO-ORDINATOR: Maddy D'Arcy (clarinet)

Also, the results from the McDonald's Perfroming Arts Challenge: SUWO scored 84 out of 100. Well done!

But importantly, SUWO's end-of-year concert is coming up on Thursday October 26th, starting at 7pm in the Old Darlington School. We hope to see you there!

A $10 band fee for the second semester of 2006 was decided on at the 27th July Ordinary meeting. Also, SUWO will be preparing hastily for the McDonald's Performing Arts Challenge in week 4. We will be performing on Thursday 17th of August at 6pm at Willoughby Town Hall, Chatswood.

SUWO is set for another music filled semester after a very competitive performance in the Yamaha Band Festival. Rehearsals are set to start again in the first week of semester: 5:30pm Thursday 27th July. There will also be an ordinary meeting of the society beforehand at 5pm, also at the Old Darlington School.

SUWO will also be at the University of Sydney Union's Re-Oday on Wednesday August the 2nd, so keep an eye out for us!

At the last SUWO general meeting the society elected new executives, with the results as follows:

The 2006 year has started auspiciously for the Sydney University Wind Orchestra with a heap of goings on. Helena managed to organise some fantastic social events - the Oweek BBQ, and a night of music at the Vanguard - and the music has been gradually sounding sweeter since SUWO's Oweek performance.

Unfortunately, since the club President, Richard Smith has resigned to concentrate on his honours work, SUWO has been without a President since the end of March. We farewll a really hardworking and supporting president. Consequently, SUWO is holding a VERY important general meeting on Thursday 13th April at 5pm in the Old School. Normal rehearsal will follow afterwards.

SUWO is now officially re-registered with University Clubs and Societies. But in more exciting news, the SUWO Dubbo tour is being steadily organised and the finalised dates are from Wednesday 23rd to Sunday 27th of November. More details can be found here.

There are also new scheduled rehearsals to prepare for the tour, in stuvac and after exams:

A new executive for the coming year has been elected with all positions filled. The new executive is as follows:

All leaving memebers of the previous executive should be praised for their contributions. A special note for thanks to Andrew Meares - I've been told he was the best treasurer this society has ever seen, but he could just be lying.
Richard, as his first act as SUWO prez has organised for an ordinary meeting of the society this week:

We will have an Ordinary Meeting at 8pm on Thursday 13th October in the Old Darlington School Building (where we rehearse). The idea is to finish the rehersal early and then go on to discuss the following matters:

1. A possible end of semester concert, time, place and programme to be determined if we want to go ahead with this.
2. The proposed tour to Orange following the end of exams - Lauren Burke (who was recently elected Publicity Officer) has been looking into this. Hopefully she will be able to give us information so we can decide whether this is viable.
3. Updating our members' contact details, as suggested by Zofia at our AGM.
4. As Andrew Meares noted in recent email, the society's registration with the union expired on 1st October 2005. I will look into the re-registration process and may have something to report by this time.
